4 Facts about the new Melbourne Metro Rail Tunnel

Melbourne's new Metro Train Tunnel will cost an estimated $11 billion. That is only a little more than the cost of an annual Myki pass for every person in Melbourne!

The tunnel will be more than 40 metres underground at its deepest point. It will run underneath the existing City Loop train line and even underneath the Yarra River!

The Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) to be used for this project is up to 120m long when fully assembled!

Around 2 million cubic metres of soil and rock will be excavated during the construction of the tunnel.
